Natural Gas is Now Fuel Gas and is Helping Oil & Gas Companies Be More Economical

Everyone that is in the oil and gas industry has been paying attention to the prices of crude, diesel, natural gas and gas at the pump.  Heck anyone who drives has been paying attention.  With the lower prices all the way around, those in the energy business have been finding a way to be as fiscally responsible as possible.  What we have learned is that many companies are now deciding to make natural gas one of their money saving tactics.

How are they doing that Amy, and why do you ask?  Gather around friends and I will tell you a tale.

I don’t know if you have every thought about this but oil fields are not usually around a power source.  They are often in very desolate areas where you can’t just plug something in, and there is a lot of machinery on a well site that needs power.  So what do you do when you need portable power? You get generators, lots of generators, and in all different sizes. Since diesel has been fairly cheap recently companies have been fueling there generators with diesel fuel.  But remember you have to factor in the cost of trucking in the fuel to these remote locations. Again, there isn’t a corner store that you can pull a generator up to & fill ‘er up!

Most of the country, not talking about your North-easterners, had a warmer winter.  So natural gas supplies are still high.  That has kept the price low, and much lower than the price of diesel.  So companies are now switching their generators to natural gas.  So instead of flaring the gas and hurting the environment, these companies are now using this oil by-product, natural gas, or fuel gas is being used to run generators and at well sites.

This natural gas is very helpful to the oil and gas companies but it does have to have some work done. By work done I mean some treatment.  Very often this natural gas has high quantities of Hydrogen Sulfide or H2S and Carbon Dioxide or CO2.  The gas can even be very wet, or even full of NGL’s which can be very damaging to engines.  So companies need to get these 3 elements out of the gas before it can be ran through a generator to ensure that the generator’s internal parts are not ruined.  Once it has been treated to meet the clients’ specifications, it truly has become a fuel for these generators.

That is where CROFT comes in.

Maybe you have natural gas-powered equipment and are looking to solve some of the problems that arise from dirty gas. How many times have you driven upon the location to find that your engine has stopped sometime in the night causing costly production issues? We have different units in our product line that can solve many of the issues operators typically face.

We have different units in our product line to dehydrate your gas, cool it, remove gas heavies that can damage engine fuel systems and clean gas for fuel and instrumentation. The great part is we can customize the unit to meet your gas volume needs.

Tired of your fuel lines freezing up and stopping the flow of gas to you engine? Our Passive Dehydration System (PDS) can remove the water vapor causing the hydrates that form that clog the piping.

Are fluctuating BTU levels of your fuel gas causing increased wear and tear on your fuel system or is the gas so rich that you can’t de-rate your engine low enough to handle it? Our systems can remove the high BTU NGL’s, aerosols, and free liquids that cause these problems.

Our Fuel-Gas Conditioning System (FCS) can decrease wear and tear on engines, decrease fuel gas BTU and can minimize and engine downtime. By processing this raw natural gas this unit removes water, condensates and particulates from the wellhead stream to provide a clean, dehydrated and consistent fuel gas.  The best part, we can handle volumes as low as 50 MCF but can go as high as the customer needs.

Maybe you just want to protect the very expensive engine you just put in the field from liquid slugs and particulates. Our PGS line of units can filter particulates, coalesce mists and remove these liquids automatically. Equipped with our high level kill switch wired back to your engine, the unit can send a shut-down signal to keep these liquids out in the event of a failure.

Our Process Gas System (PGS) unit is designed specifically to remove particulates and free liquids from gas streams. This fuel gas can then be utilized in high speed gas engines and other bi-fuel applications that require a safe, clean gas.   Is the H2S level of the gas too high for your engines and creating a hazard for your personal? Our Chemical Injection System (CIS) or Gas Sweetening System (GSS) systems can remove this extremely corrosive and deadly H2S. CROFT’s Chemical Injection System (CIS), ensures that the chemical used to remove H2S is fully utilized, therefore decreases the amount used, ultimately saving the customer money. This unit can be used to remedy natural gas issues linked to H2S, high salt content, corrosion, hydrates, scale, paraffin, and foaming.

Whether it is compressors, instrumentation systems or generators that is in need of fuel gas, our units can improve the quality of the gas and the life of the equipment using it. All of these benefits are there to improve safety at your site as well as help with economics.
